Great Generosity

On Saturday, we went with friends to photograph Eastatoe Falls near Rosman NC. This is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the area and it is on private land which would normally make it very difficult to visit. However, The owners of Eastatoe, not only allow visitors, but provide a nice driveway, parking, a maintained path, and a set of stairs, so it is easy to reach the falls. Their only request is that people do not come too early or too late since the driveway winds around their house.

There has been an increasing tendency for both homeowners and housing developments to not allow visitors to natural features like lakes and waterfalls due to fear of lack of privacy, being robbed,  damage to the land or being sued. Every time that I visit Eastatoe, I feel gratitude to these owners, who I have never met, that they are willing to share their wonderful waterfalls with everyone.

Below is the top photo in color. Which do you prefer?

In my next blog, I will discuss how I photographed Eastatoe Falls.

  1. Nice story. You might give the homeowners a print to show your gratitude. That might be a nice way to meet them, if you are interested.

Nice story and shot, Bonnie. On my cell phone they don’t look very different. Will have to look later on the computer. Good idea on giving them a print even though they may have a collection at this point. 🙂
