Craggy Gardens is north up the Blue Ridge Parkway from Asheville. It is a popular spot for locals and tourists to watch the sunset. It is about a 25 minute drive from my house. There are panoramic views on both sides (east and west) of the Parkway here, a visitors center with shopping, and restrooms. This evening sunset was nice, but not the most spectacular. The cloud formation reminds me of a Phoenix descending. There were some light purple tones to the clouds. I prefer the dramatic clouds on the opposite side of the road that I viewed about 1/2 an hour before sunset. There were no brilliant colors and the mountains at this time of year are fairly monotone, so I converted it to B&W to show the forms of the clouds. It is always worth going out to photograph a sunset, but the best photo may not be the actual sunset.

As soon as you mentioned the pheonix descending, it jumped out of the photo for me.

I am happy that I am not the only one to see it.
