It has been the warmest winter so far in my 12 years of living in the Asheville area. It’s the first time I have seen crocuses blooming in February in my neighborhood. We must have put down too much mulch in our yard because we had no crocuses blooming yet, but some of my neighbors had plenty. There is one yard where the crocus colonies have naturalized and spread into expansive areas of their lawn and wooded borders. Their dog was disturbed about me taking photos in his yard. But the neighbor was pleased to have someone appreciating their crocus display, and put the dog in the house so I could continue taking photos. They even offered that I could dig up a few bunches for my own yard. Most of my neighbors have either purple or lavender crocuses, but I found a lone gang of yellow. Happy spring, I mean winter!
